From 2014 to 2023, ASEAN countries experienced substantial growth in solar energy capacity, as shown by IRENA data.
Vietnam led this growth, increasing its capacity from 15,999 MW to 46,012 MW, marking a significant upward trajectory. Thailand and Indonesia also demonstrated consistent expansions, reaching 12,547 MW and 13,113 MW, respectively, by 2023.
Vietnam alone accounted for over 43% of ASEAN’s total solar energy capacity in 2023, highlighting its dominant role in the region’s renewable energy landscape. Vietnam’s significant increase in its share of total renewable energy capacity among ASEAN countries, from 31.25% in 2014 to 43.70% in 2023, is a testament to the country’s commitment to sustainable energy.
