The data presents a decade-long journey (2013-2022) of renewable energy usage for transport in the European Union (EU) and the Euro area.
Over the years, there has been a significant increase in the use of renewables for transport. In 2022, the EU reached a peak usage of 26,086.254 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent (ktoe).
The Euro area, which consisted of 20 countries from 2023, showed a substantial increase, reaching 20,513.245 thousand tonnes of oil equivalent in 2022.
Among the EU countries, Germany led the way with a 19.4% share in the EU’s renewable energy usage for transport in 2022, followed by France (14.8%), Italy (13.4%), Spain (11.1%), Sweden (8.3%), Poland (4.8%), and the Netherlands (3.9%). The rest of the EU countries collectively contributed 24.3%.
