The total global wind energy capacity has nearly tripled, rising from 349,418 MW in 2014 to 1,017,199 MW in 2023. The growth was predominantly driven by onshore installations, which constituted the majority of the capacity additions.
China has been at the forefront of this growth, with its wind energy capacity increasing from 96,819 MW in 2014 to 441,895 MW in 2023.
Interestingly, while the European Union and China have been expanding their offshore capacities, the United States has maintained a negligible offshore capacity throughout the decade.
